Out of the Mouth of Kids!

Before I begin this hilarious story, let me preface it with letting you know that I asked permission before sharing it. We have 5 grandchildren and 4 of them are in the same family - where this story originates.

MISTY:We are sitting at lunch and Audrey (age 10) started talking about what fruits of the spirit she struggles with. They talked a bit and I said I struggle with kindness, patience, and self control. Annie (age 7) said "I sure know that!  I HAVE been with you seven years now."  (With the Annie head bob.)

RUNNING FOR MY LIFE!

Randy and I have had the privilege of hosting or co-hosting many trips with the Senior Adults in our church.  Many of the stories you will see on these posts will involve some of those trips.

On this particular trip, we were co-hosting a trip to New Orleans and had been given "free time" to roam around the French Quarters.  Randy went with a group to find a snack, and I went with a few ladies to just walk and observe the festivities around us.  I decided to leave my purse on the bus and just keep up with my camera.  Randy had our money for the snacks and meals.

As the ladies and I were walking, I saw a fabulous statue!  I whipped out my camera and got a beautiful photo!!  All of a sudden, the statue came ALIVE!!!  He pointed to a can beside him and insisted I put in money!  I was still so shocked he was a real person, I was speechless!  I tried to explain that I didn't have my purse with me, therefore I had no money, but I could hardly get in a word because of his yelling at me!  The crowd began to GROW to watch the theater show unfolding before their very eyes!!

THEN....he began to move toward me still yelling for money or my camera and this time, I began to MOVE!  I held on to two little senior adult ladies' arms (somehow thinking they could SAVE me!!) and we started walking as fast as they could walk while the man chased us yelling and the crowds grew bigger!!  Everyone scurried out of the way as we passed them, until I happened to notice a church on the other side of the square.  We made a beeline for it and walked in praying like never before!!  We stood there shaking (at least I was), while they kept patting me and trying to catch their breath from me making them run!  But in reality, they just thought they were running - the crazy man behind us was running!  BUT...he didn't run all the way to the church, thank goodness, although he was still screaming at me from where he stopped!  (Personally, I think he stopped chasing us because he was afraid someone was going to take his money from the can he had left behind!)

I kept looking out the church door, and every time I did, he saw me and began yelling that I owed him money!  He was REALLY scary!!  After the ladies caught their breath, I put myself between them (I truly thought they could save me) and we left the church (after praying just one more time!), and started moving in the opposite direction from the "statue"!  He continued yelling until we were out of sight and we couldn't wait to find more of our group!!  By the way, I tried to find the photo I took, but I think I hid it!

Lessons I learned:
* Don't take pictures of statues!  They may start chasing you!
* If you are going to run, pick someone who can run as fast as you!

* That God provides what you need when you need it - like a church sanctuary to hide in.

MOTHER'S DAY GIFT - story from the viewpoint of a 1 year old

Randy and I have so much fun with our grandchildren and over the years have collected quite a few fun stories.  This is one of our favorite and crazy fun experiences!  :D

"Momma,
I had a very trying day today with Gigi!  It started out great!  You KNOW how much I love sitting in Pops lap watching ballgames!  Well…..Gigi pulled me out of Pops comfortable lap and told me how much fun I was going to have making you a Mother’s Day gift. She carried me to the kitchen and stood me on a bar stool to look down at this white square she called a “canvas” – which sure didn’t look like fun to me!  But then I saw thick blue paint on a plate and THAT looked FUN

Here is where things became weird!!
She grabbed my left hand and started toward the blue paint.  It surprised me so much that I started kicking my legs and almost fell off the stool!  You know what? That didn’t slow her down one bit!  She put my hand straight into that blue paint.  It felt so awesome that I just had to look at it while she was trying to hold onto me and make my fingers close – they were far apart so I could see all that blue paint better!

I pulled my hand away from her to get a closer look and guess what?  The paint started running down my arm!  Wow!!  You should have heard Gigi yelling for Pops to HURRY and come help her!!  While she was yelling for him get the dish rag, all that blue paint on my hands and now running down my arm, started falling off!  Poor Pops couldn’t find the dish rag very quickly causing Gigi to yell louder – as if that was going to help!  He finally found it and came running!!  You know what else?  He can run as fast as those guys on TV!

Pops held onto me while Gigi grabbed my arm and start catching all the blue paint dripping off my hand and arm, which was about to fall onto the carpet.  When she started wiping my arm off, I had just about had enough of this fiasco and began complaining.  Did that stop her??  NO!!  She grabbed my hand again, and aimed for that white canvas.  Then the strangest thing happened – she insisted Pops close my fingers together – remember they were spread wide apart so I could see all that blue paint better.

Gigi pushed my hand down on that “canvas” and when she lifted my hand up, it just looked like another blob of blue paint on the “canvas” that matched what was on the plate.  At this point, I let them know I was through!!!  I heard Gigi say there was NO WAY she was going to grab my RIGHT hand and do it all over again!  Thank Goodness!!

It took Gigi about 30 minutes of going back and forth with a warm rag to get all that blue paint off me, Pops, and herself.  At least she let me stay in Pops comfortable lap while she cleaned all of us up – muttering to herself the whole time!  And then she started laughing and told Pop that the little bunny ears the blue paint was supposed to look like, actually looked like an antler!  And since she decided to not make the other ear with my right hand, it looked a little strange, she said.  She told me that was OK, though, because she wasn’t going to touch my other hand with a 10 foot pole!  She said she would fix it as best as she could, so I hope you like it.  I sure went through a lot of anxious moments and aggravation from Gigi getting this made for you.  But it was worth it, because you are a GREAT Momma!!  I love you!"  PS - Gigi took this picture BEFORE she made it look all better!

THE BEGINNING
August 16 was our 48th Anniversary! These photos are the beginning of our life together with lots of fun along the way. On the left is our first "together" photo. It is significant because.....do you see my beautiful Tiara? It was the custom 48 years ago that the veil would cover the bride's face until the couple was pronounced man and wife. And it covered my face beautifully!

See Randy's handsome white jacket that he borrowed from a friend for the wedding? Well......as he was raising my beautiful veil to give me the wedding kiss, he stopped in mid-air and just looked at me. I became even more nervous and thought maybe he had changed his mind!!! Oh no!! I whispered, "What's wrong?" as a church full of people were staring at us and wondering what in the world was up!! He whispered back, "If I go any higher, I'll rip the arms out of my jacket - it is too tight!". I whispered back, "What are we going to do?"

By this time, all the people were beginning to giggle nervously here and there! Without warning or telling me, he leaned down and just put my veil over his head and joined me under my veil!! I was so astonished and nervous that when the kiss ended, it smacked loud enough to hear clear in the back of the church! He ducked back under to the other side of my veil so proud of himself for being so creative as I was desperately pushing the veil back over my head! All our family and friends broke out in loud laughter and applause! My face was quite red walking back down the aisle! :D

BUT....I paid him back at the reception!! Look at the size of that cake I stuffed in his mouth! Oh yes....I loved getting even, but I'm not sure he was embarrassed at all. He just enjoyed the cake! Let the fun begin!!
